Salary: £49,634 - £52,592 per annum plus excellent benefits
Location: Walsall, West Midlands (Hybrid – minimum two days in office, flexibility required)
Contract: Full Time, 12 month FTC starting June 2025 (37 hours per week)

At whg, we’re looking for a Communications Manager (12 months maternity cover) to take the reins of our well-established and high-performing comms team. This is a key role, offering the chance to provide senior strategic support while empowering the team to deliver creative, multi-channel campaigns that truly make a difference to our customers and colleagues.
What you’ll be doing:
- Leading and managing a team of passionate communicators, enabling and inspiring them to deliver excellent service across the organisation.
- Overseeing the delivery of a wide-range of communications programmes aligned to our 2030 Plan.
- Acting as a trusted consultant to internal stakeholders, ensuring their messages land effectively using the most appropriate channels.
- Providing senior-level support and insight to colleagues at all levels, including deputising for the Head of Communications at key meetings.
- Support the team in campaign planning and delivery across digital, social, print and in-person formats – all while keeping an eye on results and driving continuous improvement.
- Leading on flagship projects – including the planning and delivery of our All Colleague Conference in April 2026, bringing together 800 colleagues for an inspiring and impactful experience.
- Ensuring robust measurement and reporting is in place to demonstrate the effectiveness of our work and guide future improvements.
- Managing relationships with suppliers, external agencies, and internal stakeholders with professionalism and confidence.

- A strong people leader who can get the best out of a multidisciplinary team and support their continued development.
- Experience delivering strategic, integrated communications in a complex organisation with multiple stakeholders.
- An emotionally intelligent communicator, able to influence at all levels and juggle competing priorities.
- A champion of best practice in campaign planning, delivery and evaluation, who’s confident working across both online and offline channels.
- Someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about building on our strong foundations.

Our Communications team spend a minimum two days per week together
in the office, with flexibility for more where needed.
